Tidal Influence Internship Program
Through this program, interns have the unique opportunity to work with a local ecological restoration consulting firm and be part of the leading teams working on the Los Cerritos Wetlands and Colorado Lagoon restoration projects. Restoration interns will learn techniques such as planting, invasive species removal, watering regimens, seed collection, plant propagation, biological monitoring, and plant identification. These developed skills will be used to help increase native plant populations and improve habitat quality. Our interns also gain experience as environmental educators, promoting stewardship and exploration in coastal habitats for a wide-ranging audience of diverse backgrounds and age groups.

A few reflections on past internship experiences from our interns:
"I’m surprised about how much I learned and how I can view myself differently because of this internship. I went through pictures from the beginning of the internship 'til now and I saw a difference in how many people I interacted with and what I could accomplish. I didn’t expect to like the work this much. I didn’t know what to expect of the relationships and friends I’d have from the experience. I can definitely say that there’s a lot more that was given to me than what I signed up for. "
"I know I was able to learn a lot from each of the leaders, both about the wetlands we worked so hard to restore and about myself and what I truly value. I think a lot of what I learned that will stick with me relates to putting yourself out there and how to help others understand even when you yourself may not be an expert."
"I also had no idea how much I could advocate for the wetlands simply from realizing how rare the environment is becoming. I unknowingly became an advocate for the Long Beach wetlands outside of the internship and taught everyone I know something about them whenever I could."
